Frequently asked Questions
Does my dog need to be referred by a vet for treatment?
A veterinary referral in writing is required for all dogs prior to commencement of Hydrotherapy treatment, these forms may be faxed or posted to us by your vet.
How long does a session last?
The length of the session depends on your dog's condition, needs, and ability. This may vary from only a few minutes in the pool or waterwalker treadmill initially to 20 minutes as your dog improves its condition and fitness.
What if my dog has a medical problem whilst swimming?
Should your dog experience any medical problems whilst being treated by hydrotherapy, then a trained hydrotherapist and animal first aider is on hand at all times when a dog is in the pool or waterwalker treadmill.
Does my dog need to be vaccinated before it commmences hydrotherapy treatment?
Yes, all dogs must have an up to date vaccination certificate prior to treatment, this should be brought to the initial consultation.
Can I feed my dog before treatment?
No, please do not feed your dog at least 3 hours prior to treatment.
Can I swim with my dog?
A trained hydrotherapist is present during all swims and treatments and where a dog's condition dictates, the hydrotherapist will enter the water with the dog to provide the necessary treatment. Owners, however are not permitted in the water but may be required to assist in ensuring the dog feels at ease and in encouraging a hesitant dog to swim.
What if my dog has never swum before?
All dogs at Buddy's are required to wear special canine life jackets, these help with a dog's confidence but are also a vital aid for dog's with a disability, jackets are available for all sizes of dog.
Terms and Conditions
Whilst all reasonable precautions are taken, please be aware that dogs swim entirely at there owners own risk:
Session fees (including insurance claims) are payable on the day or in advance by block booking.
Dogs may not be treated without a completed Vet Referral Form.
Please do not feed your dog for 3 HOURS prior to treatment.
Dogs should be as clean as reasonably possible.
Please groom your dog prior to treatment to remove excess hair.
Try to ensure your dog has been to the toilet (moved their bowels) prior to treatment.
It is the owner’s responsibility to collect any waste matter produced by their dog, either in the hydrotherapy centre or associated grounds.
Bitches in season may not swim.
Dogs with infectious conditions (such as ear, eye & skin infections), open/weeping sores or wounds may not swim.
Owners are required to notify Buddy’s Hydro if during the course of treatment the dogs condition worsens or the veterinary surgeon has advised that the course of treatment is to be changed, suspended or stopped.
Buddy’s Hydro reserve the right to use photographic stills and / or video footage taken during the dog’s session and associated activities.
Owners are requested to be present at each session. It is advisable to wear appropriate clothing whilst accompanying your dog to hydrotherapy sessions
Dogs + Water = WET
Buddy’s Hydro shall not be held responsible for any loss, damage or theft of any property/personal belongings of visitors to the centre.
Cars are parked at their owners’ own risk.
Unfortunately there will be a charge of £50 should a dog foul the pool as this then takes a few hours to drain and re-fill.
Buddy’s Hydro reserve the right to refuse treatment.
